EMDR Therapy in Orange County & Across California

You already know your story. EMDR isn't about learning it again, it's about finally healing from it.

You've sat in therapy before. You can explain your childhood, your patterns, your triggers — sometimes better than the people trying to help you.

You understand why you react the way you do. You just can't seem to stop doing it.

That's not a failure of insight. It's the difference between your mind knowing something is over, and your nervous system still bracing for it.

Talk therapy is powerful for understanding your story. EMDR is different — it targets where the story is actually stored, so your body can finally catch up to what your mind already knows.

How do I know that I have trauma?

EMDR can help if you recognize yourself here:

At work:

  • You're calm and competent in a crisis, but one vague email from your boss sends you into a spiral of overthinking

  • You over-prepare, over-function, and still feel like an imposter no matter what you accomplish

In your body and mind:

  • You already know your story — you've done the talk therapy, you can explain exactly why you react the way you do You take feedback as evidence you're failing, even when it's minor

In relationships:

  • You snap at your partner or the people you love most, then feel confused and ashamed by your own reaction

  • You lose patience quickly, even in moments that don't call for it

  • You struggle to hold a boundary with a difficult or toxic family member — or you avoid the conversation entirely

  • You can't decide whether to stay in contact with someone who hurts you, and feel guilty either way you choose

  • You keep ending up with partners you have to manage, soothe, or emotionally parent

    — and you're still stuck

  • You freeze or over-explain yourself instead of speaking up in the moment

  • You feel like a completely different, calmer person everywhere except around your family

  • Your body still reacts like something is wrong, even when you know, logically, that you're safe

WHAT IS EMDR?

WHAT IS EMDR? *

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy approach that helps your brain heal from experiences that feel stuck.

In life, we move through so many events, some good, some hard, some neutral. Most of them our brain naturally digests and files away.

But sometimes something is too much, too fast, or too overwhelming.

When that happens, the memory can get stored in a way that does not fully heal.

Even if you are not thinking about it every day, it can still live under the surface. It may show up in how you react, the beliefs you carry about yourself, or emotions that seem to appear out of nowhere.

EMDR therapy in Orange County helps your brain return to the experience and finish the processing that did not get to happen at the time.

Using gentle back and forth eye movements or tapping, we help unlock the memory along with the negative beliefs connected to it, such as I am not safe, I am not good enough, or it was my fault.

As your brain reprocesses, the experience begins to feel more settled and less emotionally intense.

You still remember what happened.
It simply no longer has the same hold on you.

Instead of something lingering and unhealed, it becomes something your nervous system understands is over.
